About Dr. Davinder Singh Ji
Early life & career
Dr. Davinder Singh was born on 9th April 1957 to Brigadier (Retd.) Jaswant Singh and Harbans Kaur. He pursued his education at Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, where he completed his M.B.B.S. and M.D. He later worked as an Associate Professor at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, and Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. However, in 1991, Dr. Singh decided to sacrifice his career and shift to Baru Sahib to work for the upliftment of rural communities.
Dr. Davinder Singh’s association with The Kalgidhar Trust
Despite Dr. Davinder Singh’s successful career in medicine, Dr. Singh felt a strong desire to volunteer and serve humanity. About 35 years ago, he donated all his earnings to The Kalgidhar Trust to serve rural communities with a focus on education for underprivileged children. Sacrificing his career, Dr. Singh shifted to Baru Sahib in Himachal Pradesh and took over as Chief Medical Officer of the charitable hospital there. Later, he took charge as Principal of Akal Academy, Baru Sahib, and completed his Bachelor of Education degree in the midst of his service to the Trust.
As of now, Dr. Singh is the President of The Kalgidhar Trust. He is also the Vice-Chancellor of Eternal University, Baru Sahib; A member of the Governing Body of Akal University, Talwandi Sabo; and the Director of Akal Academies, a chain of 129 rural schools being run by The Kalgidhar Trust.
Dr. Davinder Singh Ji’s contributions
Dr. Singh has made significant contributions towards rural education and healthcare services. He left his career as a Medical Specialist at Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi, to join Sant Baba Iqbal Singh Ji at Baru Sahib, He has been working under the guidance of Sant Baba Iqbal Singh Ji, the founder of Kalgidhar Trust, for over 30+ years.
He has been instrumental in establishing healthcare facilities in remote areas, delivering medical care and support to those in need. Dr. Singh’s contributions towards rural education are numerous. He took every major step focusing on providing quality education to underprivileged children in rural areas.
For his contribution to the field of education, Dr. Davinder Singh Ji was honoured with ‘Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Memorial National Teacher Award’ in 2006.
Kalgidhar Trust’s journey in serving rural communities
For more than three decades, Kalgidhar Trust has been devoted to serving rural communities by prioritizing education for underprivileged children. The Trust has founded several schools and colleges in rural regions.
One such example is the Baru Sahib Education Complex, which educates more than 10,000 students from various parts of India.
Additionally, the Trust has launched vocational training, healthcare, and community development programs as part of its efforts.
The Trust seeks to establish a self-sufficient system that empowers rural communities and enables them to break free from poverty’s vicious cycle.
