Serving Punjab in Crisis

Serving Punjab in Crisis

In an interview with Prime Asia, the current flood situation in Punjab and the relief efforts by Kalgidhar Trust Baru Sahib were discussed in detail.

Punjab is facing an unprecedented flood crisis, and along with the rising waters, a flood of selfless sewadaars (volunteers) has come forward to serve those in need. Kalgidhar Trust Baru Sahib, known for its long-standing service in education and social welfare, has stepped up to support the flood relief efforts.
Around 18 to 20 villages have been completely submerged, with water reaching up to the third roof of homes. The situation this time is far worse than the floods in 2023, but our dedication remains stronger than ever. Being only 4–5 km away from the affected area, and having many students from this region studying at Akal Academy, we feel a deep responsibility to support the community like family.
Our three boats are actively operating, distributing langar, medicines, and essential supplies to flood-affected families who have not eaten for days. The Nishan Sahib displayed on our boats serves as a symbol of hope and resilience for the people in distress. The floodwaters here are a result of overflowing Ravi, Satluj, and Beas rivers, along with contributions from 22 drains, causing severe destruction.
Many homes and roofs have been destroyed, and the people, located close to the border, face even greater challenges. Agriculture has been destroyed, children’s education is disrupted, and the local economy is in crisis. Our belief in the spirit of Chardi Kalaa—ever-rising optimism—motivates us to keep working tirelessly.
During our relief work, we met a man who lost 5 acres of land, yet remained strong, saying, “We are the sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji,”
We appeal to everyone to stand with Punjab and contribute in any possible way—whether by donating dry rations, medicines, water, or other essentials. Our long-term commitment includes helping rebuild homes, ensuring children’s education, and managing the burial of dead animals.
Whenever people see the Nishan Sahib, they find hope that help is near. At Kalgidhar Trust Baru Sahib, we continue to work day and night, serving with dedication and love to help the people of Punjab through this challenging time.
