Words That Empower – Elevating English Skills at Akal Academy Kajri Two-Day Workshop Brings New Light to Language Learning

“Language shapes the way we think, and determines what we can think about.”
Benjamin Lee Whorf

With the aim of transforming the classroom into a dynamic and linguistically rich space, Akal Academy Kajri Niranjanpur, under the aegis of The Kalgidhar Education Trust, Baru Sahib, hosted a two-day Teachers Workshop on “English Language Skill Development.” It was a powerful initiative to strengthen the teaching methodologies of English educators from across the U.P. region.

From Chalkboards to Sound Waves

Sponsored by Oxford Publications, New Delhi, the workshop welcomed 59 English language teachers who gathered for an insightful session conducted by renowned language expert, Dr. Vijaya. This event was a celebration of innovation, interaction, and professional empowerment.

Day 1 Highlights – Listening, Speaking, and Confidence Building

The first session began with a warm welcome by Principal Mrs. Simran Kaur Thind and coordination led by Mr. Ashok Singh Guleria, HOD English. Dr. Vijaya launched into a thoughtful discussion on the fundamental challenges students face shyness, pronunciation struggles, and lack of fluency. Teachers engaged in interactive group activities focusing on listening and speaking. Lively circle discussions, role-playing, and real-time soft skill applications enriched the session. Emphasis was laid on voice modulation, intonation, and the gentle art of pauses.

Day 2 – Phonetics – The Art and Science of Sound

The second day delved into the world of phonetics a first for many. Dr. Vijaya decoded the 44 sounds of English with clarity and care. Teachers were introduced to phonetic transcription, high-frequency sight words, and voice drills that demystified pronunciation challenges.
Using vibrant video and audio content from BBC and ELT podcasts, the workshop bridged the gap between theoretical understanding and practical implementation. British vs. American English distinctions, tongue placements, and intonation techniques were part of the intense yet engaging session.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

In her closing message, Dr. Vijaya encouraged teachers to create their own audio-visual tools, utilize libraries effectively, and nurture a reading culture among students. She generously shared digital resources and web links that would support the teachers ongoing journey in language education.

Voices of Impact

“I feel recharged and ready to transform my classes,” said one of the participating teachers. Another added, “It was like relearning the language we’ve taught for years—with a new lens of clarity.”

A Collective Applause

The workshop concluded with heartfelt thanks from Cluster Head Mrs. Rangbir Kaur, Principal Mrs. Simran Kaur Thind, and contributions from Media Coordinator Mr. Philip Xavier and Mr. Pawan Katara of Digiclass, who ensured smooth technical flow.

The Takeaway

Language is a bridge to the future. Through such dedicated workshops, Akal Academies ensure that their educators stay empowered, updated, and ever-inspired so they, in turn, can inspire generations of students to speak, think, and dream beyond boundaries.
