Last weekend, members of our team had the profound honour of visiting the historic Khalsa Diwan Society Gurdwara in Victoria, British Columbia – a sacred landmark established in 1912 by Sant Teja Singh Ji, and celebrated as the first Gurdwara in North America.
Standing within its peaceful walls, where early Sikh pioneers preserved Sikhi with immense courage, humility, and unity, was a deeply moving experience. This Gurdwara is a testament to the resilience, faith, and seva-driven spirit of our ancestors who laid the foundation for Sikh presence across the Western world.
Heartfelt Gratitude to Our Hosts
We extend our sincere thanks to:
Harpreet Singh Popli Veerji, Adjudicator, Ministry of Public Safety & Solicitor General (BC, Victoria), and his gracious family for their warm hospitality, guidance, and unwavering encouragement. Their support made our visit even more meaningful.
Our appreciation also goes to the Victoria BC Sangat and our dedicated local volunteers:
Manjeet Kaur Barha
Baldev Singh Barha
Their tireless seva, community service, and commitment to Gurmat values continue to uplift the local Sikh community and inspire all who visit.
A Legacy That Lives On
This visit reminded us of a powerful truth that, Wherever Sikhs travel, they do not merely build institutions; they build thriving communities rooted in faith, compassion, and shared progress.
From the early settlers who built the first Gurdwara over a century ago to the vibrant Sangat that sustains it today, the Khalsa Diwan Society stands as a symbol of Sikh resilience, unity, and global contribution.
As we carry forward the mission of Educate to Save, we draw strength from such historic pillars of Sikh heritage and the Sangat that keeps this spirit alive.
