Join the Movement – Kalgidhar Trust Takes a Stand Against Drug Addiction

Combating the Drug Menace – A Call to Action

The Kalgidhar Trust, a globally recognized non-profit organization headquartered in Baru Sahib, Himachal Pradesh, is on a mission to combat drug addiction. In its continued efforts to raise awareness, the Trust organized its second annual social and spiritual event, Shaam-e-Roohani 2016, at Punjab Kala Bhawan, Chandigarh.

The event saw participation from prominent educationists, industrial leaders, doctors, and retired officers from the tricity region, underscoring the urgent need to address the escalating drug crisis.

Progress Through Akal Drug De-Addiction Centres

The Akal Drug De-Addiction Centre, located at Cheema Sahib, Sangrur, Punjab, has already transformed the lives of over 4,500 individuals. Speaking at the event, Baba Iqbal Singh, President of The Kalgidhar Trust, emphasized the Trust’s ambitious vision:

“Our mission is to eradicate drug addiction from Punjab by establishing 22 de-addiction centres with the active support of volunteers and society.”

Dr. (Col) Rajinder Singh, Director of De-Addiction Projects, highlighted the alarming proximity of Punjab to the Golden Crescent (Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran), making the state particularly vulnerable to drug trafficking.

Expanding Reach – A New Centre at Chunni Kalan

To address the growing need for rehabilitation facilities, the Trust announced the opening of a new Akal Drug De-Addiction and Rehabilitation Centre at Chunni Kalan, Fatehgarh Sahib. This centre, inaugurated by Baba Iqbal Singh, will serve addicts in Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula, and surrounding areas.

What sets this facility apart is its focus on vocational training, ensuring that recovering addicts gain the skills needed to rebuild their lives and integrate into society as respected members.

Raising Awareness Through Music and Drama

The event also featured powerful cultural performances by over fifty students from the Akal College of Divine Music and Akal College of Nursing. The performances aimed to inspire and educate the audience about the devastating effects of drug addiction.

Highlights included:

  • A soul-stirring Shabad recital, Bba Kahan Khushi Khuar, by 16 girls and one boy under the direction of Dr. Purvi.
  • A compelling play titled Tabah, directed by Dr. Kulbir Virk, portraying the destructive impact of drug abuse.
  • A thought-provoking mime performance, Heal the World, directed by Kalpana, Savita, and Mandeep, which conveyed a message of hope and recovery.

Join the Fight Against Drug Addiction

Dr. Singh urged the community to take collective action, stating:

“If we don’t act now, the drug crisis will engulf every family in Punjab, including ours. Together, we can make a difference.”

The Kalgidhar Trust calls upon individuals and organizations to support its mission of creating a drug-free society through awareness, rehabilitation, and education.
