From Rural Daughters to Cultural Torchbearers – How Music Education Empowered Three Women from Punjab

Across many rural regions of India, daughters grow up with dreams that often remain limited by financial realities and social expectations. In many homes, the future of a girl’s education is decided not by her potential but by circumstances.

But when opportunity, mentorship, and education come together, something extraordinary happens.

Girls who once faced limitations begin to build confidence, discover purpose, and transform their lives. They become role models for their communities and inspiration for the next generation.

This is the story of three such daughters from rural Punjab whose journeys reflect the true spirit of Give to Gain.

A Mission to Empower Rural Women

At Eternal University, Baru Sahib, education is not only about academic success. It is about empowering young women with knowledge, discipline, and cultural values.

Through the Akal Institute of Rural Women Empowerment (AIRWE), many rural girls receive the opportunity to pursue higher education in fields that nurture both skill and identity.

For Harman Kaur, Lovepreet Kaur, and Rajwinder Kaur, this opportunity became the turning point of their lives.

Through education in Indian classical music, they not only built careers but also became carriers of a rich cultural tradition.

Harman Kaur – Rising Above Challenges Through Music

Harman Kaur grew up in a modest rural household where continuing education was not always easy. At one stage, family challenges nearly forced her to discontinue her studies.

However, determination and support helped her continue her journey.

She completed her BA and MA in Music (Sitar) at Eternal University.

Today, Harman serves as a Music Teacher at IB Akal Academy Baru Sahib, guiding students in the art of classical music and inspiring young girls who once faced challenges similar to her own.

Her journey reflects resilience, passion, and the power of education to transform lives.

Lovepreet Kaur – Inspiring Girls to Dream Bigger

Lovepreet Kaur grew up in a traditional rural household where girls’ aspirations are often limited by social expectations.

Despite these constraints, she pursued her passion for music and completed BA and MA in Music (Violin) through the AIRWE initiative.

Today, she teaches at Akal Academy Baru Sahib, where she mentors students and encourages young girls to believe in the power of education.

Her story proves that when a daughter is given the opportunity to learn, she becomes a source of inspiration for many others.

Rajwinder Kaur – Turning Healing Into Inspiration

Rajwinder Kaur arrived at Baru Sahib during a difficult phase of her life. Seeking peace, direction, and a new beginning, she found strength through education and music.

She completed her BA and MA in Music (Sitar) and transformed her personal journey into a path of service.

Today, Rajwinder teaches at the Akal College of Divine Music at Eternal University, helping students learn classical music while sharing the deeper values of discipline and spirituality.

Her journey shows how education can become a path of healing and empowerment.

Reviving Classical Music Traditions

These journeys are also closely connected to the vision of Sant Baba Iqbal Singh Ji, whose mission focused on empowering rural communities through education.

Under his guidance, institutions at Baru Sahib revived classical string instruments such as Sitar and Violin, creating opportunities for first-generation rural girls to learn and master these traditions.

Today, many of these students are not only performers but also educators who are carrying forward India’s rich musical heritage.

From Limitations to Leadership

The journeys of Harman Kaur, Lovepreet Kaur, and Rajwinder Kaur represent a powerful transformation:

From uncertainty to purpose
From limitations to leadership
From students to educators

Their stories highlight how education can uplift individuals while preserving culture and strengthening communities.

The True Meaning of Give to Gain

The philosophy of Give to Gain reflects a powerful cycle.

When society invests in the education of a girl, she gains knowledge, confidence, and independence.

In return, she gives back by uplifting families, inspiring communities, and preserving cultural traditions.

This Women’s Day, these inspiring journeys remind us that empowering one daughter can transform countless lives.
