A Cup of Tea in the Floodwaters – Punjab’s Spirit of Chardi Kala Amidst Disaster

Punjab Floods – A Land Submerged, A Spirit Unbroken

The overflowing five rivers have left Punjab drowning in pain. Fields, homes, and memories in Ajnala tehsil of Amritsar have been swallowed by floodwaters. The air carries the heavy scent of damp earth and despair. Yet, amidst this devastation, stories of courage and compassion rise above the waters.

A Reporter’s Encounter with Chardi Kala

When The Lallantop reporters Vikas Verma and Roohani waded through the flooded lanes, they reached a house half-submerged, its ground floor transformed into a pond. On the creaking first floor, they met an elderly farmer sitting calmly on a charpoy.

Vikas, trying to comfort him, was taken aback when the old man, despite losing nearly everything, looked at him with kindness and asked:
“Cha Piyogey?” – Will you have tea?

It wasn’t just an offer of tea. It was Punjab’s eternal Chardi Kala — the ever-rising spirit of resilience, dignity, and generosity.

Beyond Tea – The Meaning of Hospitality in Loss

The farmer’s words symbolized something larger than survival. They embodied the Punjabi way of life — never letting hardship drown humanity. Even in disaster, the instinct to share, to welcome, to give, remains alive. It was a reminder that resilience is not only seen in rebuilding homes but in offering warmth when one has little left.

Indian Army and The Kalgidhar Trust: Drones Delivering Hope

While villagers keep their spirit alive, the Indian Army, in collaboration with The Kalgidhar Trust, Baru Sahib, is ensuring survival through action. Using advanced drones, they are delivering relief kits — food, medicines, and essentials — to stranded families in waterlogged villages.

These drones have become lifelines, flying over impassable roads to deliver aid where no vehicle can reach. This innovative relief effort is saving lives and restoring hope to thousands of victims.

Punjab’s Spirit Shines in Every Cup of Tea

As floods test the strength of Punjab, its people remind us of the true meaning of humanity. A simple cup of tea in a flooded home is not just a drink — it is resilience served warm. And with the Indian Army and The Kalgidhar Trust working tirelessly, the message is clear: Punjab will rise again.
