Celebrating Five Years of Harmony: Guru Nanak Darbar, Dubai

Marking a Milestone: Five Years of Guru Nanak Darbar

The Sikh community in Dubai gathered in large numbers to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Guru Nanak Darbar Sikh Temple, a symbol of peace, tolerance, and selfless service in the UAE.

The event welcomed esteemed guests, including Mirza Al Sayegh, Director at the Office of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum and patron of the Indian Business and Professional Council in the UAE, as the chief guest.

A Message of Unity and Tolerance

During his visit, Al Sayegh expressed his admiration for the temple and the values it represents.

“I am delighted to be here today on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of this beautiful place. It showcases the tolerance and harmony that thrive in the UAE, where over 200 nationalities live in peace and coordination,” he remarked.

He also highlighted the strong ties between the UAE and India, emphasizing their growing partnership in business and trade.

Recognizing Contributions to Society

The event saw Al Sayegh honored with a siropa (a ceremonial robe of honor in Sikh tradition) by Baba Sewa Singh ji, a renowned environmentalist and educationist. He also received a painting created by Surekha Sadana, an Indian artist based in Dubai.

Surender Singh Kandhari, Chairman of Guru Nanak Darbar, expressed gratitude for Al Sayegh’s presence and shared the temple’s commitment to societal welfare:
“Guru Nanak Darbar Dubai has pledged Dh1 million to the UAE government under the UAE Food Bank Programme. Giving is not just about monetary donations; it is about seva (selfless service) for the community.”

A Step Towards Preserving Sikh Heritage

Adding to the celebrations, the launch of a digital Sikh history museum was announced. This new initiative aims to preserve and share the rich heritage of Sikhism with visitors. The digital gallery’s inauguration was scheduled for the evening, in the presence of community members.

Culmination with Langar: A Tradition of Equality

The event concluded with langar, the traditional free meal served at Sikh temples, embodying the values of equality and selfless service. It brought together people from various walks of life, further reinforcing the temple’s message of harmony and unity.

A Beacon of Cultural Harmony in the UAE

The Guru Nanak Darbar Sikh Temple stands as a beacon of peace and cultural inclusivity in Dubai. Its fifth anniversary celebrations highlighted the importance of volunteerism, the spirit of giving, and the enduring friendship between the UAE and India—a bond that continues to strengthen with each passing year.
