A Dream to Heal and Serve
From a young age, Gurparam Kaur was deeply inspired to help others. The idea of setting up her own clinic and serving the poor fascinated her mind. She found joy in healing and solace in serving, and it soon became clear that becoming a doctor wasn’t just a profession for her—it was her calling.
Akal Academy – The Foundation of Success
Gurparam credits Akal Academy, Baru Sahib, for laying the foundation of her success. Reflecting on her time there, she shares:
“Akal Academy played a huge role in shaping my vision. The spiritual environment of Baru Sahib aligned me with my goal of becoming a doctor. Babaji’s teachings and the values of Sikhi kept us grounded and focused on our purpose.”
The Academy taught her not just academics but also life values—simplicity, spirituality, and authenticity. These lessons became her guiding principles as she worked toward her dreams.
The Power of the Turban
One of the most significant milestones in Gurparam’s journey was embracing the Dastaar (turban) while studying at Baru Sahib. She shares how it became a source of empowerment and pride:
“The Dastaar makes us feel unique; it sets us Sikhs apart from others. It is not just a piece of cloth; it is a symbol of our identity and faith.”
Quoting the Sikh belief
“ਜਬ ਲਗ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਰਹੇ ਨਿਆਰਾ, ਤਬ ਲਗ ਤੇਜ ਦੀਓ ਮੈ ਸਾਰਾ॥”
(“As long as Khalsa preserves its uniqueness and follows the path of the true Guru, I will bless them with all my powers.”)
For Gurparam, her turban became more than an adornment—it was her strength and dignity, fueling her confidence and resilience throughout her journey.
Closer to the Dream
After completing her MBBS, Gurparam is now preparing for her MD abroad. She plans to take the United States Medical Licensing Examinations and the Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Exam. Each step brings her closer to the childhood dream that shaped her life.
Speaking about this accomplishment, she says:
“Trust me, it feels proud to say I’m a doctor today. It’s only possible because of the values I embraced and the Dastaar I wore in the divine valley of Baru Sahib.”
A Testament to Empowerment
For Gurparam, the turban is more than just an identity—it is a constant reminder of her purpose and the strength she carries. It symbolizes empowerment, authenticity, and pride, enabling her to stay true to herself while navigating her aspirations.
Gurparam’s journey serves as an inspiration for others, showing how a strong foundation, spiritual values, and embracing one’s identity can lead to success in any field.
