Akal College of Nursing Hosts the 7th International Nursing Conference
Akal College of Nursing, Eternal University, Baru Sahib, organized its 7th International Nursing Conference on “Family Nursing: A Futuristic Approach to Healthcare” on October 27-28, 2017. The event, held at Bhai Gurdas Hall and the campus auditorium, welcomed attendees to the serene valley of Baru Sahib, renowned for its spiritual and educational environment.
Emphasizing Family-Centric Healthcare
The conference highlighted the importance of family as the foundational unit of society in promoting healthful living. This year’s focus was on embedding family nursing practices into healthcare systems, addressing grassroots health interventions, and fostering a transdisciplinary approach in nursing.
Opening Ceremony and Inaugural Address
Dr. Lekha Vishwanath provided an overview of the conference. The event commenced with a Shabad recitation by students of Akal College of Divine Music. Mrs. Ranjit Kour, Principal of Akal College of Nursing, welcomed the gathering, and Dr. H.S. Dhaliwal, Vice-Chancellor of Eternal University, officially opened the conference.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Rathi Balachandran, ADG, Nursing, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Delhi, delivered the inaugural address. Honorable Dr. Ashok Kumar Sharma, Directorate Medical Education & Research, Himachal Pradesh, also graced the occasion, expressing his delight at the event’s organization.
Inspiration from Leadership and Spiritual Guidance
Hon’ble Baba Iqbal Singh Ji, Chancellor of Eternal University and President of The Kalgidhar Trust, inspired attendees with his address, emphasizing professional excellence and disciplined living for nursing students. He also released the film Chup, focusing on drug de-addiction, and unveiled the conference souvenir.

The conference featured collaborative partners from Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA, including Dr. Jill Derstine, Dr. Mary Lu McHugh, Dr. Carol Okupniak, and Dr. Jane Green Ryan. Dr. Jill Derstine delivered the keynote address, sharing insights on advancing nursing practices globally.
