Faith Meets Future – Kaur & Singh Academy Lighting the Flame of Sikhi in New Jersey

Nurturing Young Minds with Values Beyond the Classroom

In a quiet corner of Bridgewater, New Jersey, every Sunday morning carries the rhythm of prayer, learning, and identity. Kaur & Singh Academy (KASA), a groundbreaking Sunday school, is redefining Sikh education for children growing up in the West. Now in its third successful year, KASA operates not from a Gurdwara or religious venue but from the well-equipped Bridgewater Middle School merging modernity with tradition in an inspiring way.

Sikhi, Script, and Spirit

With a three-hour schedule each Sunday (9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.), KASA brings together students from New Jersey’s growing Sikh population. Its unique curriculum combines teachings of Sikh faith, scriptural understanding, history, Gurmukhi script, and Punjabi language. Every session is thoughtfully designed to ensure children to learn who great is their roots.

Living the Rehat Maryada

KASA goes beyond books. Children actively recite Shabads, reflect on their meanings, take Hukamnama, and perform Ardaas practices that help them embody the Sikh code of conduct in daily life. These weekly sessions become a safe space where children experience Sikhi as a way of being.

A School Like No Other

Perhaps what sets KASA apart most is its setting a regular American Public School building, free of traditional religious architecture. Yet, within these walls, the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib come alive through the voices of young Kaurs and Singhs. With the latest digital tools and a classroom environment that rivals top-tier institutions, KASA shows that spiritual education can thrive outside conventional spaces.

Building Identity in a Foreign Land

At KASA, every child learns that their Sikh identity is a crown, not a question. In a country where assimilation often overshadows heritage, this school is a bold affirmation that faith and modernity can go hand in hand. The ripple effect is profound empowered children become confident, compassionate citizens who carry the spirit of Sikhi wherever they go.

A Model for Sikh Education Worldwide

Kaur & Singh Academy is a blueprint for how diaspora communities can preserve their roots while flourishing in a multicultural world. It is a beacon of hope and a call to action to build spaces where children learn how to succeed in life, and also how to live it with values, purpose, and pride.
Let’s Applaud the Sevadaars, parents, and volunteers of KASA who are planting the seeds of Sikhi in young hearts. May this light continue to spread far and wide.
