From Rural Villages to Food Science Labs – How Three Daughters of Himachal Chose an Uncommon Path

In many villages of Himachal Pradesh, career choices often follow familiar paths. Teaching, nursing, or government jobs are considered safe and practical options.

But sometimes, curiosity leads daughters toward unexplored fields.

Fields that many people around them may not even recognize.

Food Technology is one such field — a science that plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety, quality, and nutritional value of the food we consume every day.

For three daughters from rural Himachal Pradesh, choosing this uncommon path changed not only their lives but also the perception of careers within their communities.

Education That Opens New Doors

At Eternal University, Baru Sahib, education is not limited to textbooks. It introduces rural students to emerging scientific fields and real-world applications.

Through specialized programs in Food Technology, students gain scientific knowledge and practical training that prepares them for careers in food safety, quality control, and research.

Today, three rural daughters — Rinka, Nancy Dhiman, and Jyoti Verma — are working as Food Analysts in the FSSAI-approved Food Testing Laboratory at Eternal University, contributing to public health and food safety.

Their journeys reflect the power of opportunity combined with determination.

Rinka – Turning Curiosity into Scientific Expertise

Rinka, from Nurpur in Kangra district, grew up in a family where education was strongly valued.

Encouraged by her father’s belief in learning, she pursued B.Sc. Agriculture and later completed M.Sc. in Food Technology at Eternal University.

Entering a field that few people around her even knew about, Rinka followed her curiosity and commitment to science.

Today, she works as a Food Analyst, applying scientific techniques to test food products and ensure their quality and safety.

Her journey shows how awareness and education can open doors to emerging scientific careers.

Nancy Dhiman – A First for Her Village

Nancy Dhiman comes from Fatehpur in Kangra district, where careers in Food Technology were almost unheard of.

Yet she became the first person from her village to enter this field.

Through her studies in Food Technology, Nancy developed the scientific skills needed to analyze and test food samples.

Today, she is part of a laboratory team responsible for food testing and quality analysis, helping safeguard consumer health.

Her journey has inspired many young students in her village to explore new career possibilities.

Jyoti Verma – Breaking Family Barriers

Jyoti Verma from Hamirpur district created two important milestones in her family.

She became the first girl in her family to complete a Master’s degree and the first person from her village to pursue Food Technology.

Her determination led her to Eternal University, where she developed expertise in food science and laboratory testing.

Today, Jyoti contributes to scientific processes that help maintain food standards and protect public health.

Her success proves that when rural daughters step into science, they create new opportunities not only for themselves but also for future generations.

From Villages to Laboratories

The journeys of Rinka, Nancy Dhiman, and Jyoti Verma represent a powerful transformation:

From villages where Food Technology was once unknown
To laboratories ensuring national food safety standards

Their stories highlight how education can bridge the gap between rural potential and scientific innovation.

The True Spirit of “Give to Gain”

These inspiring journeys also reflect the philosophy of Give to Gain.

When rural daughters are given access to education, mentorship, and opportunity, they gain knowledge and confidence.

And in return, they give back to society — by contributing to science, safeguarding public health, and inspiring other girls to dream bigger.

This Women’s Day, their stories remind us that empowering rural daughters can transform communities and create a future driven by knowledge and innovation.
