Kartarpur Sahib – A Testament to the Love Sikhs and Muslims Share for Baba Guru Nanak

Kartarpur Sahib stands as a beacon of interfaith harmony, embodying the shared reverence Sikhs and Muslims have for Baba Guru Nanak. Located around 120 kilometers from Lahore, near Narowal, this historical Gurdwara was built by the Raja of Patiala, Bhupinder Singh, between 1921 and 1929.

Baba Guru Nanak spent the last 18 years of his life here, making Kartarpur Sahib a sacred site for followers worldwide. The pristine white structure is surrounded by lush green fields, and within its premises lies a symbolic “grave” that tells a profound story.

After Baba Guru Nanak’s passing, his Sikh and Muslim followers found only his chador (cloth) and flowers, not his body. This led to the creation of two graves—one built by Muslims in the veranda and the other within the Gurdwara walls.

Even today, Kartarpur Sahib attracts devotees from both faiths. As Rafique, a caretaker, shares, “Around 100 people, mostly Muslims, come to pay their respects to Baba ji.” This site remains a testament to Baba Guru Nanak’s universal message of love, peace, and unity.
