In 1956, the world witnessed a historic moment at the 8th World Congress of Religions for World Peace in Shimizu City, Japan. Among delegates from across the globe, one figure stood out — a dignified saint in radiant white attire and a crisp white turban. His presence commanded silence, and when he rose to speak, his voice resonated with a rare blend of grace, clarity, and spiritual authority.
“Ik Onkar Satnam… There is but one all-embracing and all-powerful Divinity…”
This was none other than Sant Teja Singh Ji (M.A., LL.B., Punjab; A.M. Harvard, USA) — a saint-scholar whose mission was to bring the timeless message of Guru Nanak Sahib to the global stage.
Ik Onkar – The Eternal Truth of Oneness
Sant Ji began with the foundation of Sikhism — Ik Onkar, explaining that:
“There is but one all-embracing and all-powerful Divinity, the One-in-All and the All-in-One. The Eternal Reality whose Name is also Eternal.”
This wasn’t just theology — it was the ultimate scientific and spiritual reality that transcended boundaries of religion, geography, and culture.
Where Science Meets Spirituality
“Religion is a subjective research, as exact as science — even more profound.” — Sant Teja Singh Ji
In a time when science and spirituality were seen as two different worlds, Sant Ji masterfully united them. Referring to great minds like J.B.S. Haldane, Albert Einstein, and Kirtler F. Mather, he emphasized that even modern science was now inching closer to spiritual truths:
- Matter is an expression of the Mind.
- The Universe is the living body of the Divine.
- Consciousness is the ultimate reality.
A Bold Message to Humanity – Return to Naam
Sant Ji passionately highlighted how the focus of most religions had drifted toward empty rituals rather than the pursuit of divine realization.
He called for a return to the essentials:
- Daily Naam Simran (meditation on the Divine Name)
- Hari Kirtan (singing praises of the Divine)
- Righteous, truthful, and selfless living
“The highest and purest religion is meditation on the Divine Name, combined with selfless service and righteous action,” he declared, echoing the wisdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s Sukhmani Sahib.
A Global Formula for Peace
Sant Teja Singh Ji’s message was more than a speech — it was a blueprint for world peace. A plea to humanity: realize the God within, transcend divisions, and embrace the oneness of all creation.
“The universe is not a machine. It is the visible frame of the invisible Divine.”
