Akal College of Nursing Hosts Critical Care Workshop with Drexel University

Akal College of Nursing, Eternal University, in collaboration with Drexel University, Philadelphia, organized a two-day workshop on critical care nursing. The event was held in the main auditorium of Eternal University and featured expert sessions by faculty members from Drexel University.

Eminent Delegates from Drexel University

The workshop was led by distinguished delegates:

  • Prof. Dona – Ph.D. student and Assistant Clinical Professor in Critical & Emergency Care
  • Prof. Brien – Assistant Clinical Professor in Emergency & Community Care
  • Prof. Elizabeth Richard – Assistant Clinical Professor specializing in Cardiothoracic & ICU Care

Additionally, seven students and one faculty member from Murari Lal Memorial College of Nursing attended the workshop.

Day 1: Sessions on Cardiac & Respiratory Care

The inaugural session began with a welcome address by Mrs. Ranjeet Kaur (Principal, Akal College of Nursing), followed by a spiritual Shabad Kirtan.

Prof. Dona’s Session on Cardiac Disorders

  • Covered Angina Pectoris, Myocardial Infarction (MI), Shock, and Heart Failure
  • Discussed clinical symptoms, diagnostic tests, and management strategies
  • Engaged students with interactive Q&A sessions

Prof. Elizabeth’s Session on Respiratory Disorders

  • Focused on Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) and Mechanical Ventilation
  • Explained various ventilation modes and prevention of Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP)

Prof. Brien’s Case Study on Myocardial Infarction & Shock

  • Presented a real-life case study with ICU images
  • Explained the clinical course and emergency interventions

Day 2: Trauma Care, Diabetic Emergencies & GI Disorders

The second day covered critical topics related to trauma care, diabetic emergencies, and gastrointestinal disorders.

Prof. Brien’s Session on Trauma Emergencies

  • Discussed Chest Injuries, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Burns, Pneumothorax, and Hemothorax
  • Explained patient assessment and emergency management
  • Focused on the Rule of Nine and Parkland Formula for burn treatment

Prof. Elizabeth’s Session on Diabetes & Acute Kidney Injury

  • Covered Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) and Hyperglycemic Hyperosmolar Syndrome (HHS)
  • Explained the pathophysiology and management of renal failure

Prof. Brien’s Session on GI & Hepatobiliary Disorders

  • Focused on GI bleeding, Peptic Ulcer Disease, Cirrhosis, and Pancreatitis
  • Discussed diagnosis and treatment approaches

Closing Ceremony & Expert Insights

The workshop concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony. Delegates from Drexel University shared their insights on advancing the nursing profession and improving critical care education.

  • Prof. Sujana Chakaravarty (Academic Coordinator, ACN) shared real-life experiences in the nursing profession.
  • Mrs. Ranjeet Kaur (Principal, ACN) delivered a vote of thanks, emphasizing the significance of the collaboration.
