Representing Malaysia on the Global Stage

Global Representation and Lone Malaysian Contingent

The competition featured bands representing 13 countries, including New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland, the US, Belgium, England, Spain, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. As the lone Malaysian contingent at the event, Sri Dasmesh was founded in 1986 by Sukdev Singh and his brother Harvinder Singh. Sukdev Singh, a commercial pilot and director of the Sri Dasmesh International School, has been instrumental in the band’s journey.

Leadership and Dedication

Guiding the Band to Victory

Leading the championship-winning band were pipe major Tirath Singh, drum sergeant Tripert Singh, and mid-section head Sukhpreet Kaur. Tirath Singh and Tripert Singh, who are brothers, also serve as pilots with the national carrier Malaysia Airlines. They guided the band through an intensive 13-month training regimen, meeting three times a week for rigorous practice sessions lasting two hours or more at the Sri Dasmesh International School in Kuala Lumpur.

A Gift to the Nation

Celebrating National Pride

Expressing their pride in the achievement, Tirath Singh remarked that the band’s triumph was their gift to the nation for Merdeka (Independence Day). They hope to instill a sense of pride and unity among all Malaysians through their outstanding performance. By raising the Jalur Gemilang (Malaysian flag) high in Scotland, the Sri Dasmesh Pipe Band brought home well-deserved recognition and silverware, making their nation proud.
