Pir Bhikhan Shah – The First to Recognize Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Divinity

While the local Muslims bowed westward towards Mecca for their morning Namaaz, the Pir instead bowed eastward, in the direction of Patna. When questioned, he explained, “A beloved of God, a saint and a hero, has been born today. He will rise to destroy sin and falsehood and will establish the rule of truth and virtue.”

Journey to Patna

Determined to witness the divine child, Pir Bhikhan Shah embarked on a long journey to Patna, accompanied by his disciples and servants. Upon reaching the house of Guru Gobind Rai, he humbly requested an audience with the newborn.

Initially hesitant, Mata Gujri relented after the Pir’s unwavering resolve and fasting pledge. Finally, the Pir was granted permission to see the holy child.

The Test of Unity

Pir Bhikhan Shah carried two earthen pots of sweetmeats: one from a Muslim vendor and the other from a Hindu vendor. He presented these to the infant Guru to test his divine inclination towards either community. To the Pir’s amazement, Guru Gobind Rai simultaneously placed one hand on each pot, symbolizing equality and unity between Hindus and Muslims.
