The Issue: FIBA’s Discriminatory Policies
On July 12, 2014, during the Asia Cup Championship in China, two Indian Sikh basketball players, Amarpal Singh and Amjyot Singh, faced humiliation when they were asked to remove their turbans before the match. FIBA (International Basketball Federation) claimed that wearing turbans violated their rules, disregarding the players’ religious beliefs and identity.
This act has sparked outrage across communities, as the turban is an integral part of Sikh identity, deeply rooted in faith and culture.
Petition to Stop the Discriminatio
An online petition was launched on Change.org on July 26, 2014, to demand justice for Sikh players and advocate for policy changes at FIBA. The goal is to gather at least 50,000 signatures before FIBA’s meeting on August 27, 2014, in Spain, where the issue will be reviewed.
The petition aims to highlight the importance of respecting religious symbols in sports and ensuring that Sikh players can compete without compromising their faith.

Stand with us to protect the identity and dignity of Sikh sportsmen. Let’s ensure that no player ever has to choose between their faith and their game.
