Expressing Through Art Despite Adversity
Satyajit Biswas, born deaf and mute, communicates through his strokes on canvas, showcasing his immense talent. His passion for art and his interest in computers make him stand out from others. His potential was recognized by Manjeet Singh, a resident of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, who is on a mission to make a difference in people’s lives.
Manjeet Singh’s Inspirational Initiative
Manjeet Singh, a resident of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, met Satyajit during a holiday trip to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He was amazed by Satyajit’s artistic abilities and his interest in computers. After their conversation, Manjeet decided to sponsor a computer course for Satyajit. A year later, he returned to the island to gift him a laptop, enabling Satyajit to pursue his passion and education further.
A Call for Society to Support the Needy
Manjeet emphasizes the importance of society’s wealthier individuals coming forward to help the less fortunate. He believes that if people from the Andaman Islands had supported Satyajit, assistance from mainland residents wouldn’t have been necessary. He urges society to show empathy and help those in need.
Sikh Service – A Mission to Serve Humanity
Manjeet Singh’s desire to serve the underprivileged began in 2015 when he felt a divine calling to do something for humanity. He has since been organizing langars (community meals) twice a month for poor rickshaw pullers and others in need, spending around Rs. 32,000 to Rs. 35,000 per event, serving about 1,500 people. The langar is set up on a busy street in Golghar, where local Sikh youth volunteers to help serve meals.
The Satisfaction of Giving Back to Society
Manjeet shares that serving meals to the poor gives him immense satisfaction. “By having a meal at the langar, a rickshaw puller saves about Rs. 30 to 40, the amount he would have spent buying food from the market,” says Manjeet. His efforts are supported by Sikh youth volunteers, who actively contribute to the cause.
