Kernels of Truth – Breaking Free from the Chains of Addiction

Growing up in a home overshadowed by alcohol addiction, Manpreet Kaur became a pillar of strength for her family. Guided by her mother, Rajwinder Kaur, she focused on pulling her family out of poverty and abuse. She took strong steps to plan her future, aiming for economic independence.

A Step Toward Empowerment

It was with this motivation that she joined the AIRWE Women Empowerment program offered by The Kalgidhar Trust, Baru Sahib. In this program, she received free education and training to become a teacher, equipping her with the comprehensive knowledge and skills needed to meet the demands of a 21st-century educator.

A Journey of Learning and Leadership

Today when she looks back on how lucky she was as she not only was the part of first batch of this program at the AIRWE – Akal Institute of Rural Women Empowerment, but she ended well by scoring 70% in her finals and was given a title of top scholar of that batch.
This program not only helped her earn a living for her family but gave her a strong base of values which was imbibed in her.

Today, she looks back on how fortunate she was. She was not only part of the first batch of this program at the AIRWE (Akal Institute of Rural Women Empowerment), but she also excelled, scoring 70% in her finals and earning the title of top scholar of her batch.

Transforming Her Family’s Future

This program not only helped her earn a living for her family but also gave her a strong foundation of values. She became a driving force in helping her father, Sukhbir Singh, find a path out of alcoholism. While she still needs to keep a constant watch over her father, her career has progressed. She switched to a school in Amritsar and is now working as a coordinator for the Junior High School.

A Tireless Advocate for Change- for Education , and Women Empowerment

With a strong work ethic, she strives daily to cover the living expenses that fall on her shoulders. Even after school hours, she takes time to teach English to children living in her vicinity.

She is deeply indebted to the Trust that helped her succeed and become a ray of hope for her family and her sister, Rajkanwalpreet. She has become a tireless advocate for all women to work with passion and energy, helping each one find themselves in a position to “OPT OUT” by pursuing their passions rather than be “PUSHED OUT” by the daily ordeals of life, in which one can easily lose one’s own identity.

Dream, Believe, Act.

The truth is that one needs to DREAM, transform those dreams into THOUGHTS, and then turn those thoughts into ACTION. Otherwise, there is a high chance of being lost in a world full of challenges.

Her voice is full of strength and confidence, reflecting her track record as a teacher who inspires and ignites imagination and a love of learning in her students.
