God’s Ways Are Unforeseen and Always for Our Good : 2013-09-23T06:32
We often hear our elders saying, “God’s ways are unforeseen and are good for one’s own sake.”
But when tragedy strikes, how can that possibly be for our benefit?
Let’s try to understand this profound truth through the life story of young Sumandeep Kaur, whose journey from grief to grace is nothing short of miraculous.
A Village Girl’s Struggles – Life in Sohain Khurd
Sumandeep Kaur, 18, daughter of Sukhwinder Singh, a farmer, and Maljeet Kaur, hails from the small village of Sohain Khurd in Amritsar, Punjab a region often criticized for its gender bias and restrictions on women’s rights.
Limited by resources, most families in her village would invest only in educating their sons, as schools were far and expenses high.
Suman’s family of five her father, grandmother, brother, and mother was already struggling when tragedy struck.
The Loss That Shook Her World
At just 16, Suman lost her mother, her greatest source of strength.
“I was very scared when my mother died,” she recalls. “It really made me daunted because my mother’s sudden demise made me lose my courage. My father’s emotional state started deteriorating and he got addicted to alcohol. My family even lost its faith in daily prayers to God.”
Her words reflect the despair of a young girl who saw her family crumble before her eyes.
A Ray of Hope – Education as Her Path to Strength
Despite the heartbreak and adversity, Sumandeep completed her schooling under PSEB, keeping her mother’s dream alive that her daughter would be educated.
Understanding her family’s financial struggles, she applied for the FREE Teachers Training Skill Development Program at the Akal Institute of Rural Women Empowerment, Baru Sahib, run by The Kalgidhar Trust.
“The idea of getting a chance to receive education for free, along with food and accommodation, was awe-inspiring,” says Sumandeep.
“I learnt that the Kalgidhar Trust was doing this especially for rural girls like me from villages where people cannot afford education or believe it’s a waste for girls.”
Rising from the Ashes – A Mission to Educate and Inspire
Having faced extreme hardship, Sumandeep developed a deep awareness of society’s struggles especially drug and alcohol addiction and vowed to make education her tool for change.
She dreams of becoming a teacher and guiding rural youth toward a brighter, addiction-free future.
Transformation at Home – Faith Restored
Sumandeep’s progress inspired her family in unimaginable ways.
Her father, once addicted to alcohol, gave up drinking to support his daughter’s dreams.
The family rediscovered its faith in God and prayer, and her brother took baptism, embracing the Sikh way of life “Sikh” meaning “learner.”
Realizing the Hidden Blessing
Today, Suman believes that what once appeared to be a tragic twist of fate was, in fact, a divine plan leading her toward her purpose.
She now understands that destiny’s designs often seem painful at first, but they unfold into blessings with time and faith.
The Divine Message – Faith and Patience Are the Keys
As humans, we often lose hope when faced with loss, questioning God’s will.
But, as Suman’s story reminds us, the Almighty’s ways are beyond human comprehension.
All we can do is trust, wait, and hold onto faith, for patience is the only key to unlocking the mysteries of divinity.
