anditrao Appeals to National Commission for Women to Tackle Misogyny in Music Industry

Prof. Panditrao Dharennavar’s Mission to Protect Women’s Dignity

Professor Panditrao Dharennavar, a 43-year-old social activist, has taken it upon himself to protect the dignity and honor of all women, transcending barriers of caste, creed, religion, region, and status. His passion for women’s rights and social justice fuels his fight against the disrespectful portrayal of women in popular music.

His Campaign for Punjabi Language and Social Awareness

Though Punjabi is not his native language, Panditrao has dedicated himself to promoting the language and raising awareness about its cultural significance. During his bicycle expedition, he not only advocates for the preservation of Punjabi but also highlights social issues, such as female foeticide, which has led to the lowest sex ratio in Punjab, and the harmful practice of dowry.

Call for Action Against Vulgar and Misogynistic Song Lyrics

Panditrao Dharennavar has appealed to the National Commission for Women (NCW) to issue Suo Motu Cognizance against the creation and dissemination of vulgar, alcoholic, and weaponry-themed songs. He condemns the derogatory remarks made by singers, songwriters, and media outlets that perpetuate misogyny, offensive content, and disrespect towards women in songs across various regional languages, including Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Kannada, and Tamil.

Legal Push for Censorship of Offensive Songs

In addition to his appeal to the NCW, Panditrao is pushing for legal action through Public Interest Litigations (PILs) regarding vulgar and offensive music. The Punjab and Haryana High Court, as well as the Uttarakhand High Court, have already addressed similar issues concerning vulgarity and amplified music in public spaces. Panditrao’s ongoing PIL seeks a Censor Board to regulate and censor such harmful content in the music industry.

Prof. Panditrao’s Vision for Social Change

Prof. Panditrao’s campaign is part of a larger mission to bring about a drastic social change. His relentless efforts are focused on ensuring that the music industry and its stakeholders are held accountable for the impact of their content on societal values and women’s dignity.
