New Book on Addiction by Dr. Rajinder Singh

On June 26, International Day Against Drug Abuse, Dr. (Col) Rajinder Singh released his book Drug Addiction via a video conference. Dr. Singh, a former Senior Advisor (Psychiatry) to the Armed Forces, addresses the epidemiology and causes of drug abuse and its health and social consequences. He highlights misconceptions surrounding mental disorders and emphasizes incorporating spirituality into addiction treatment.

In the book, Dr. Singh offers personal experiences and insights into addiction, aiming to help readers better understand the struggles of addiction. He encourages readers to face their fears, take ownership of their flaws, and make positive choices. The book stresses the importance of hope and understanding in the recovery process, providing guidance for both individuals battling addiction and those supporting loved ones.

Spiritual Approach to Addiction Recovery

Dr. Singh credits Hon’ble Baba Iqbal Singh Ji for inspiring him to integrate spirituality into addiction treatment. Baba Iqbal Singh has played a significant role in reviving Eastern philosophies, blending them with modern education and healthcare solutions, including drug addiction recovery. The book was launched by Baba Iqbal Singh Ji, President of The Kalgidhar Trust Baru Sahib, which operates two drug-de-addiction centers.

A Commitment to Service

Dr. Rajinder Singh, who retired from the Army in 1991 and has since dedicated himself to social service, manages a charitable dispensary in Chandigarh. Additionally, he runs two drug-de-addiction centers under the Kalgidhar Trust in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.

Dr. Debasish Basu, Professor and Head of Psychiatry at PGI, who was the chief guest at the launch, praised the book for providing proven strategies to combat drug addiction. He highlighted the importance of understanding the root causes of addiction and how this knowledge can enhance the rehabilitation process.
