FreshGiving – A Sikh’s Mission to Fight Hunger with Organic Produce

A Sikh’s Commitment to Seva

Siri Deva Singh from Austin, TX, has taken it upon himself to combat hunger through FreshGiving, a nonprofit that provides fresh, organic food to those in need.

Turning a Vision into Reality

The idea of FreshGiving came to him on a winter morning while working in his small garden. With strong faith and dedication, he raised funds to expand his initiative, using every available piece of his backyard to grow fresh produce.

Addressing Hunger in Austin

Hunger is a major issue in Travis County, with 1 in 6 people facing food insecurity. Many rely on food banks, but much of the donated food consists of unhealthy processed items, lacking proper nutrition.

FreshGiving’s Mission – Providing Nutritious Food

Unlike traditional hunger relief efforts, FreshGiving focuses on nourishing people with fresh, locally grown produce to promote a healthy lifestyle. Fresh vegetables retain more nutrients, making them far better than frozen or heavily processed food.

Future Goals – Expanding the Impact

The long-term vision for FreshGiving is to establish a fully operational nonprofit with salaried staff and dedicated farmland. Upcoming projects include the “Neighbor Grow” program, where volunteers can donate home-grown produce to be distributed to food banks.

The Power of Seva in Transforming Lives

For Siri Deva Singh, this initiative is not just about feeding people—it is a deeply personal journey of self-growth and healing. Through seva (selfless service), he has embraced the value of giving back, shifting away from the self-reliant culture he grew up in.
