From Rural Roots to Stardom – My Journey with Akal Academy

A Journey Beyond Fields

I, Manpreet Singh, could’ve well been just a farmer like my father had I not been fortunate to receive my schooling from Akal Academy, Muktsar. Through this letter, I wish to convey all that’s close to my heart – a love that, like a tree, will continue to bloom as long as I live.

Early Struggles – A Challenging Commute

Travelling to school was a real challenge. The school was 11 kilometers away from my village, and my farmer father would escort me daily until the bus service started in later years, as the student count increased.

The Role of Akal Academy – A Foundation Beyond Academics

Though I wasn’t a brilliant student, the blessings of God Almighty and the dedicated efforts of my teachers helped me consistently score decently. Akal Academy instilled not just academic knowledge but values, spiritual teachings like Nitnem, and our rich heritage. The Sakhis our teachers shared were a source of great inspiration.

Akal Academy’s Impact – Shaping Interests and Talents

Akal Academy played a key role in nurturing my interest in sports and arts. It was there that I participated in various games and art workshops, with teachers ensuring every student took part. My years in school, especially during +1 and +2, were filled with sports and activities that enriched my life.

Gratitude to Mentors – Teachers Who Shaped My Path

Among my teachers, I would like to especially mention Akhvinder Sir, who gave us a solid foundation in English. I am also grateful to Principal Madam Sukhraj Kaur, whose constant encouragement motivated all students to strive for excellence. Additionally, Jasmine Sir from Tamil Nadu provided us with an exceptional base in Mathematics.

Challenges in My Village – The Struggle for Education

While Akal Academy did wonders for the educational environment in the village, many families couldn’t afford to send their children to school. Several children from economically disadvantaged families remained out of school. I am pleased to learn that Akal Academies now run programs like DeedaDay.in and other initiatives to sponsor the education of underprivileged children, which can truly make a difference.

A Call for Change – Education and Safety for All

I wish for a safer society, especially in rural areas and for women, where drug and alcohol abuse cause much harm. I believe more Akal Academies and similar institutions should be established, and government schools should adopt a values-based education system like the one run by The Kalgidhar Trust. A secure environment and spirituality in education can make a huge difference, particularly for women and children.

 Gratitude and Well Wishes

I am deeply thankful to Akal Academy and The Kalgidhar Trust for their tremendous work in shaping lives through education and values. I wish them continued success in their mission of empowering students for a better future. Gur-Fateh!
