From Sketches to Stardom – Lovejeet Singh’s Artistic Journey from Baru Sahib to London

A Mind Drawn to Art

I’m Lovejeet Singh Multani, a proud alumnus of Baru Sahib. I’ve always been a simple individual with a mind deeply immersed in artistic thoughts. Today, I’m pursuing my B.A. in Fine Arts at Goldsmiths University of London—ranked among the top three art colleges globally. But the road to this achievement has been full of challenges and divine blessings.

Nurtured in the Spiritual Hills of Baru Sahib

From Nursery to 12th standard, I completed my entire schooling at Akal Academy, Baru Sahib. As a child, I had an intense obsession with art. Unlike my peers, I didn’t connect much with academics, which often made me feel like a misfit. Many students, including friends, thought of me as an underachiever. But I was simply someone lost in the world of colors, strokes, and imagination.

The Turning Point – A Mentor Who Believed in Me

My life took a transformative turn when Dr. Davinder Singh, our school principal, noticed my passion and potential. During my 9th and 10th grades—two of the most crucial years of my life—he went out of his way to support me. He arranged a dedicated room where I could work on my art in peace. That space became my sanctuary. Weekends, holidays, and every spare moment—I spent there refining my craft. His support laid the foundation for everything I’ve achieved today.

Beyond Baru Sahib – The Pursuit of Artistic Excellence

After school, I began exploring the world of art more seriously. I visited art museums, met iconic artists like Subodh Gupta, and researched institutes such as Delhi College of Arts and Chandigarh Art College. My biggest challenge was convincing my parents, who initially wanted me to enter the medical field. But after meeting the renowned artist duo Thukral & Tagra, they began believing in my dream.

Studying in London wasn’t financially easy for my family, but with faith in Waheguru and their trust in me, I secured my place at Goldsmiths. Here, art is celebrated like a religion. The exposure, diversity, and opportunities are incredible.

Spirituality – The Soul of My Art

My art is deeply rooted in spirituality—an influence that blossomed during my years at Baru Sahib. My work explores themes like faith, religion, myths, and beliefs. I carry a deep curiosity to learn about world religions, and this spiritual foundation continues to inspire my creative journey.

Message to Indian Students and Parents

To students across India: the internet has made the world accessible. Don’t be afraid to follow your interests, no matter where you’re from. With focus and persistence, success will surely find you.

To parents: Please support your children’s passions. The scope in fine arts is just as vast and promising as medical or engineering fields. Give them the freedom to follow their dreams—and one day, you’ll see them soar.

Gratitude to the Roots that Nurtured Me

Baru Sahib gave me more than just an education—it gave me belief in myself and a direction for life. I owe special thanks to Dr. Davinder Singh Sir for believing in me when others doubted my path.

Gur-Fateh!
