Punjab’s Sixth River of Concern- Drugs
Punjab, the land of five rivers, now battles an unofficial sixth river—the flood of drugs. The crisis is so severe that experts estimate more than two-thirds of households have at least one family member struggling with addiction.
A Beacon of Hope – Mehakdeep Singh
In the village of Kanaur, near Sangrur, lived a young boy, Mehakdeep Singh, who studied at Akal Academy Fatehgarh Channa. His life, deeply rooted in Sikh values, made him a source of inspiration for his family and community.
A Family’s Hidden Struggle
Despite their seemingly happy life, Mehak’s family faced a troubling reality—his father’s uncle struggled with alcohol and drug addiction, leading to severe social, psychological, and financial consequences.
The Courage to Speak Up
Unable to witness his uncle’s suffering, Mehak gathered immense courage to address the issue. Initially ignored, Mehak’s persistence, inspired by his deep love and concern, eventually led his uncle to introspect.
A Life Transformed Through Determination
After months of heartfelt conversations, Mehak’s uncle began to change. Within six months, he quit alcohol and drugs entirely and embraced Sikhism by getting baptized.
A Message of Gratitude and Positivity
Mehak’s uncle expressed profound gratitude, saying:
“Mehak is a hero. At such a young age, he taught me positivity and gave me a new life. Leaving alcohol was unthinkable, but this angel transformed me. Today, our entire family is baptized, and I thank Babaji for creating such heroes.”
