A Farmer’s Son with Big Dreams
I am Gurmandeep Singh, currently serving as a Lecturer at Bhai Maha Singh College of Engineering, Muktsar. My story begins in the humble village of Warring, where my father, S. Daljit Singh, transitioned from farming to teaching in the 1990s. This decision shaped my future, enabling me to enroll in Akal Academy Muktsar, a life-changing institution run by The Kalgidhar Trust, Baru Sahib.
Memories of a Transformative Education
The moments from my schooling often flash through my mind—Principal Sukhraj Madam’s guidance and theorems from our Maths teacher, Jayasiman Sir, were pivotal. At Akal Academy, teachers dedicated extra hours to ensure we excelled, eliminating the need for external tuition. This holistic approach laid the foundation for my academic success.
Challenges Faced by Rural Children
In my village, many children lacked access to quality education. Most worked in fields, and those who did attend school often dropped out after failing a class. This unfortunate tradition contrasted sharply with the transformation I witnessed at Akal Academy, where students flourished academically and spiritually.
The Path to Becoming a Lecturer
After completing my +2 from Akal Academy, I pursued a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Guru Teg Bahadur College. This academic journey led to my placement at Bhai Maha Singh College of Engineering, where I’ve been teaching since 2009. My dream now is to secure a government job like my father and eventually start my own business.
The Role of Spirituality and Akal Academy
Akal Academy not only nurtured my academics but also deeply connected me to spirituality. As part of a typical Jatt family, the routine of doing path (prayers) instilled strength, confidence, and discipline in me, thanks to the spiritual environment of the academy.
A Vision for My Village
I urge parents in my village to prioritize education for their children over fieldwork. Akal Academy’s comprehensive approach to academics, spiritual grounding, and English proficiency sets it apart. I envision a future where every child from my village benefits from such transformative education.
My journey from a farmer’s son to a lecturer exemplifies the power of education and spirituality in changing lives. Let’s empower more rural children with opportunities to dream, learn, and succeed.
Best Wishes and Gur-Fateh!
Regards, Gurmandeep Singh
