Navtej Singh Sarna: A Veteran Diplomat Takes Charge
In a significant appointment, Navtej Singh Sarna, the former Indian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, has been named India’s new ambassador to the United States. A seasoned diplomat from the 1980 batch of the Indian Foreign Service, Sarna will succeed Arun Kumar Singh, who recently retired.
A Distinguished Career in Diplomacy
Sarna’s diplomatic career is marked by a series of notable achievements. He previously served as India’s ambassador to Israel from 2008 to 2012, strengthening bilateral ties during a critical period. His tenure as the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) from 2002 to 2008 remains the longest in the ministry’s history, a testament to his expertise in international relations and communication.
From August 2012 to 2014, Sarna held the position of Additional Secretary in charge of International Organizations, where he played a key role in representing India on global platforms.
