During my childhood, Baba Iqbal Singh Ji of the Kalgidhar Trust Baru Sahib visited our village, spreading awareness about education for rural children. My father, who was a part of Babaji’s ‘sangat,’ learned about the Akal Academy Baru Sahib, a newly established institution at the time.
Babaji explained the unique blend of spiritual and worldly education offered at the academy. Despite our modest financial situation, my parents decided to send me to Baru Sahib to shield me from the adverse environment prevalent in Punjab during that time.
Shaping Ideals and Building a Strong Foundation
Everything I have today—my faith, my ideologies, and my career as a Deputy Commandant with the BSF—is rooted in the life-transforming experiences I had at Baru Sahib. I completed my schooling from Akal Academy in 2000, scoring 80%. Afterward, I pursued a B.Sc. in Microbiology from Doon Paramedical College.
The disciplined and structured life at Baru Sahib made me realize my love for a regimented lifestyle, eventually steering me toward serving the nation through the armed forces. With preparation and divine blessings, I passed the BSF entrance exam and began my journey in the Border Security Force.
Life in the BSF – Adapting with Ease
For the past 5½ years, I have been serving as Deputy Commandant in the BSF. The environment here feels like a natural extension of the disciplined life I experienced at Baru Sahib. Thanks to the strong foundation laid at school, I easily adapted to the BSF regime and thrived in its structured lifestyle.
Akal Academy – A Source of Inspiration and Excellence
Akal Academy played a pivotal role in inspiring me to aim high. The teachers and staff, including Er. Amarjeet Singh, Dr. Neelam Ma’am, and Jaswinder Veerji, fostered an environment conducive to learning and all-around development. Babaji’s ever-present guidance further enriched our lives.
The academy also emphasized physical fitness, which proved instrumental in my BSF career. I actively participated in sports such as football, athletics, and badminton, earning the “Best Sportsman Award” in 1999—one of my most cherished memories.
Addressing Modern Challenges – A Call to Action
Today, Punjab faces a new crisis—drug and alcohol abuse. Organizations like the Kalgidhar Trust are crucial in combating these challenges, just as they helped the state overcome the terrorism crisis of the 80s and 90s.
I firmly believe that with relentless efforts from such organizations and institutions like Akal Academy, Punjab can once again emerge victorious against these social evils.
Message for Rural Students and Parents
To rural parents and students, I urge you to embrace courage and perseverance. Life beyond school requires resilience and adaptability. Step boldly out of the cocoon of school life, face the realities of the world, and success will inevitably follow.
Akal Academy laid the foundation for my journey, instilling in me the values of discipline, perseverance, and service. I owe my success and the privilege of serving the nation to the transformative education and guidance I received there.
